Configuring LoadRunner to Collect SiteScope Monitors

    PostDateIconMonday, 09 August 2010 12:18 | PostAuthorIconWritten by Mark

Connecting LoadRunner 9.x to SiteScope 9.5 server can throw an error when attempting to collect the available counters. This is due to a problem authenticating with the sitescope server, probably a version functional error. It is possible to reconfigure the connector strings in LoadRunner to request a specific user ID, which can be appended to the URLs requested of sitescope to force the authentication.

    Extracting embedded XML

When an XML string is embedded in another XML node, it is converted to "URL" mode, with special characters converted to their hexadecimal representation.

    For example, %3Cmagnumlog+version%3D%221.2%22%3E becomes <magnumlog version="1.2">.

    Birth of an Application

    PostDateIconThursday, 17 June 2010 15:23 | PostAuthorIconWritten by Mark

A Testing project is a bit like starting a family. The customer hunts around for a suitable partner, dallying here and there before settling on one who appears to have everything they need. The initial ecstasy quickly settles down into planning for the big day, either working well together or completely misunderstanding each other's wants and needs, with bickering and long silences. Towards the end things get a bit fraught with regular arguments, which the consultant loses with as much dignity as he can muster, despite being right at least half of the time, because he must. On the big day, the consultant's presence is demanded at the customer's side, despite wanting to get the pub early and celebrate the inevitable. A great deal of puffing and blowing and squeezing of painful bits is eventually followed by the relief of a successful delivery that everyone agrees is beautiful, despite being a bit wrinkled and needing constant attention to keep it happy. The customer soon forgets all of their pain and lessons learned along the way and gets on with life. The consultant quietly licks his wounds and chalks it up to experience.

Avoiding logon meltdown when it's all in Action.c

    PostDateIconWednesday, 10 March 2010 06:53 | PostAuthorIconWritten by Mark

When your script is all in the Action.c section, and you want to start VUsers in batches, the usual approach of "start 10 VUsers every 5 minutes" can result in too many simultaneous hits on the home/logon page. This can skew results momentarily, and even cause failures.

    PostDateIconThursday, 28 January 2010 11:22 | PostAuthorIconWritten by Mark

The following counters are available when monitoring Oracle 10G from LoadRunner. They can be captured at the "system" level using V$SYSSTAT, or captured by user session using V$SESSTAT. A friendly DBA indicated that those shown underlined would be most useful
